So I used streaming video in my class today. We are going to begin reading Romeo and Juliet soon and my 9th graders have little to no prior knowledge of Shakespeare. I found a great video clip on www.unitedstreaming.com.
This clip was about the life and times of Shakespeare - it was brief, informative, and entertaining. I gave the students questions before the video segment to answer as they watched and went over the questions after the video. Although it was just a brief clip, I think the students grasped more about Shakespeare than if I had just lectured on the same information. It was also quick and easy for me, while being relatively painless for the students. The picture above is a still from the video clip.
